The Mathematics Behind Your First 100 Subscribers

If you want 100 subscribers on YouTube, then you need an approximate 10,000 view count. How do I know this? Since managing over a dozen YouTube channels – most of which are faceless – I've observed that the view-to-subscriber ratio on these channels is around 1% – meaning one person subscribes for every 100 viewers who view a video from one of those channels.

Applying the same math to 10,000 views, you'll get 100 subscribers. However, my channel features a 3% view-to-subscriber ratio, so if you're showing your face on your channel, only 3,300 views are necessary to reach 100 followers.

You might be wondering how long it will take to reach 100 subscribers. Every channel is different, and I cannot promise anything. However, if you follow the checklist I'm providing, hopefully, within your first month or two, you can reach that mark! To do this successfully, upload three videos weekly, giving 12 videos each month.

If each video gets 1,000 views, that's 12,000 monthly views. Utilizing the 1% view-to-subscriber ratio, you should be able to hit 100 subscribers before then. Plus, as long as you continue these tactics, getting subscribers will become easier and more accessible – so it shouldn't take long until your goal of 100 subscribers is reached!

 

Tip #1 for Getting 100 Subscribers

One of the new YouTube channels' biggest mistakes hindering their ability to gain subscribers quickly is not having a solid plan. Fortunately, research on YouTube is now easier than ever because we can easily observe what works and what doesn't.

Before beginning any content creation project, I suggest writing down three niches you are interested in. Niches are material categories; for instance, my channel teaches people how to make money online and grow on YouTube. Consider at least three exciting topics when brainstorming topics for your channel.

If you can't think of anything else, look at your subscriptions to see what content you subscribe to and watch on YouTube.

Next, it's time to validate if your idea is feasible. We do this by going to YouTube and searching for the niche we are considering creating – like creating a channel teaching people how to grow on YouTube. In this case, the keyword would be “Grow on YouTube.”

Next, we download VidIQ's free Chrome extension and open up some of the top videos within our niche. Then, we go to the channels that uploaded those videos and looked at the “Statistics” tab under a little tab labeled “stats,” which will also be added to those channels.

This will show how many views per month specific channels receive. We strive to guarantee that channels get at least 100-500,000 views each month, as this is typically where a channel can begin making a full-time income from advertising revenue and other sources.

By reading this article, it's likely that you want not only subscribers but also some money from your channel. Furthermore, this will guarantee that both goals can be accomplished.

 

Tip #2 Building your Channel Strategy

Two tips to get 100 subscribers fast: Create 12 unique video ideas for the launch of your channel. If you already have a channel and plan to stay within the same niche, keep that channel. However, if changing niches is something you are considering, I recommend creating an entirely new channel.

Returning to our math at the start of this video, we aim for each video to accumulate at least 1,000 views over time. And the way to ensure that happens is by selecting appropriate video ideas.

Start by collecting six video ideas from already popular videos, then use keyword research to uncover viral videos. Search our niche on YouTube to locate videos with many views – ideally over one hundred thousand – that haven't been uploaded years ago.

If they were, ensure they're evergreen; people will still be interested in this subject six years from now. On the contrary, remaking a video from six years ago about growing on YouTube might be an excellent video idea since people tend to revisit that topic frequently.

To be safe, make sure that videos related to the topic you are creating a video with between 50-100,000 views regularly appear online. To find these six ideas from keyword research, we must visit VidIQ. If you log in and subscribe to one of their plans, you'll get access to this keyword section immediately.

All you have to do is search keywords related to your niche. For instance, if we're creating videos about how to grow on YouTube, then typing in “how to grow on YouTube” and hitting enter will give us plenty of different keyword ideas.

Now, I like to go to the related keyword section and click “view all keywords,” sorting by overall score. These are great keywords with high search volume – meaning people search for them frequently on YouTube every month – and low competition scores, indicating how many competing videos there are against you.

For instance, when searching for “YouTube algorithm 2023,” you could create a video explaining the YouTube algorithm explained in 2023 and potentially rank for 158,000 people who search for that each month. There's very little competition – only 30 out of 100 on that relative score – so there's no need to feel discouraged if you can't create a video about one of these topics; move on to the next keyword.

For instance, “how to get more views quickly” is an excellent video topic, and “how to make money online” could also be included. Go from top to bottom and include as many keywords related to this as possible–for instance, “how to get subscribers” or “how to get views.” Anything related will do just fine!

If you don't want to pay for VidIQ, that's no problem either. Free alternatives such as going directly to YouTube and plugging in different search terms like “how to grow on YouTube” and pressing space will give you plenty of ideas that come up. The advantage of using something like VidIQ is that it gives more ideas, so you don't have to think of them all off the top of your head. Plus, it shows actual search volume and competition scores for those keywords, which YouTube search won't give you.

Tip #3: Titles and Thumbnails

Tip number three focuses on titles and thumbnails. Many people make the mistake of creating their video first, then worrying about titles and thumbnails later. However, this can be a costly mistake since click-through rate is one major factor in how well your videos perform, affecting views and subscribers.

This is the percentage of people who click to watch your video when it appears in various locations on YouTube. We strive to boost that number as high as possible by creating an eye-catching thumbnail image.

A thumbnail is simply a cover image for your video, designed to entice people to click on it instead of all the other videos on YouTube. We want them to click your video, so it's wise to focus on both the title (which we got from your ideas) and the thumbnail before creating it. That way, we know we'll have everything in our favor when creating the video.

Remember, thumbnails on YouTube tend to be relatively small, so make your text as big as possible and keep it to a minimum. In thumbnail number one, you have too much text – instead of saying “new channels 100 subscribers in 24 hours,” I would eliminate most of it and write out “100 subscribers” using as big a font as possible.

Additionally, there's excessive blank space, which is typically not recommended when creating thumbnail number one. Not only is it difficult to read and makes no sense, but both primary elements – the guy in the thumbnail and the text – are minimal. Typically, we want our primary elements to occupy as much room in a thumbnail as possible.

Additionally, if you're searching for an excellent image editor, investing in expensive software to create thumbnails is unnecessary.

 

Tip #4: Making Videos

Tip number four focuses on creating a compelling video that performs well. After creating a solid title and thumbnail, focus on engaging your viewers with these tips:

• Start the video quickly without lengthy introductions. Get to the point quickly, keeping viewers engaged.
• Avoid asking people to subscribe; if they enjoy what you offer, they will likely do so on their own initiative.
• Eliminate any blank spaces or moments where nothing happens in order to maintain momentum throughout the clip.
• Edit titles throughout your video to boost engagement. Every niche is different, so figure out what works for your viewers and model accordingly. You can also use free video editors to make changes without breaking your budget.

By following these tips, you can produce an engaging video that keeps viewers interested and may even gain more subscribers.

 

Tip #5 Optimize your Videos

Optimizing your videos for YouTube ranking requires adding relevant tags. Tags are simply metadata that describes your video using keywords. You can add tags when uploading a video by scrolling down the “tags” section. To find relevant tags, search popular videos in your niche and copy their tags using tools like SocialBlade or VidIQ. Remove any irrelevant tags that don't pertain to your video. Having relevant tags helps YouTube test with the right audience and potentially gain your first 100 subscribers.

Tip #6 What NOT to do

Now, for another critical tip – tip number six – tell you what not to do. I urge you to never, ever buy views or subscribers. Even within my course and community, people often ask if they should buy a channel, views, or subscribers. But 99.9% of the time, it's fake and an impossibility. So please refrain from doing this at all costs.

Never buy views or subscribers – it will only hurt your channel in the long run. That is why my channels have grown organically from scratch, and my students who have had great success in my programs have done so too. Therefore, I urge you to do the same.

 

Tip #7 Reaching the 100 Subscribers

Congratulations on reaching 100 subscribers! Now it's time to focus on the next step, maintaining a regular upload schedule. As your channel gains steam, make sure not to take breaks or stop now, as most channels require at least 30-60 videos before they take off within the algorithm. Furthermore, ensure your videos are of good quality too.

Your ultimate goal should be to reach 1,000 subscribers, 10 thousand, and 100 thousand and even receive play buttons from YouTube. You can also start making money on YouTube; a video explains how without showing your face or creating any videos yourself. Good luck, and keep up the great work!
